Tai Chi for Balance

In 2005, as part of a National Action Plan the National Safety Council, Nebraska implemented a Community Safety Program to address fall prevention. Tai Chi for Balance was created to provide training for Tai Chi instructors.  In 2008, Chris Cady-Jones took over the program and continues to oversee training and coordination. Ongoing partners of the tai chi program include Friendship Program, Inc., Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging, and CHI Health.

In 2013, Tai Chi for Balance moved to Friendship Program, Inc. and began an additional fiscal agent partnership.  Tai Chi for Balance is a contractor running the tai chi program and due to the fiscal partnership with the agency is able to bring in funds for tai chi as a non-profit organization.  In addition, Friendship Program provides office and training space as an in-kind donation.

Tai Chi for Balance involves training instructors who provide tai chi classes at a variety of settings including senior and community centers, churches, fitness facilities, and yoga studios.  Friendship Program, Inc. also has four employees who are trained tai chi instructors and implement tai chi groups in both day programs.
